When It’s Fine … But Not Dandy

Well that’s just fine and dandy. A pretty stock expression, I’d say. I’ve found that usually things are either fine and dandy, or they’re not. In this case, however, while it was “fine,” it most certainly was not “dandy.” It wasn’t even close. And for some reason I was hard pressed to put my finger on exactly why that was. I called upon the manager to see if he could explain the all-too apparent lack of dandy. But by the puzzled look on his face, it was clear that he could not. I told him that I’ve simply come to expect dandy over the years, and under the circumstances, I had no choice but to leave. And that’s what I did.
