Here’s A Simple Phrase That You Might Want to Try Out

It’s quite simple really, just five little words, a little saying that – without tooting my own horn too much – I think I’ve learned to use pretty effectively. Ready? Here it is:

You’re a funny little monkey.

It’s typically said in a light-hearted way to a loved one, like a significant other, or family member, and usually with a slight emphasis on the word “funny.” And it doesn’t have to be used only at special times – it works quite well during life’s mundane moments.

Here’s the secret … this is why it works. Our research and polling data suggests that most people secretly want to think of themselves as a funny little monkey! AND, after being told that they are, they often use it in their private moments as a type of self-affirmation: for example, standing and looking at themselves in the mirror in the morning and saying I AM a funny little monkey!

Go ahead, give it a try yourself. While it’s probably most often used on someone close to you, it doesn’t have to be. You can branch out and give it a try in different situations. Pulled over for speeding? Try it on the officer. Get a tough question in your job interview? Try it on the interviewer. Try it out as a pick-up line. Use your imagination.

I only ask that you not sully it by using it on people who are clearly not funny little monkeys. Glen Beck? Not a funny little monkey. Sarah Palin? Not a funny little monkey. Are we straight on this?

Here’s a really good Fleetwood Mac song for Our Duncan Funk Song of the Day – one you may have never heard. It’s from an earlier incarnation of the group, before Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham.
