Sven McPussy, Indeed

Have you ever been out with friends and one of them embarrassed the bejeebers out of you? That happened to me this weekend.

Vulva and I went out to dinner with our friend Gar Arbuckle and his girlfriend Eleanor Galore. The restaurant we went to is a pretty popular place, and one that doesn’t take reservations. We got there and there were a few people ahead of us already waiting. I made my way up to the hostess, with Gar following me, to ask how long of a wait it might be for a table of four. She said it’d be about 20 minutes, and I said that’d be fine, and then she asked me my name to put down on the waiting list, and I was just ready to say “Duncan” when Gar pipes up, quite loudly, with “McPussy.” The hostess looked at him, and with a big question mark in her voice said “McPussy?” And Gar said “yeah, McPussy – Sven McPussy.”

Oh, thank you Gar.

There was some poetic justice, though. As we were waiting, the restaurant waiting area kept filling up with more and more people, and then eventually who walks in but Gar’s parents, R. R. and Barb Arbuckle. I hadn’t seen them for awhile, and I always liked them, so the six of us had a good time visiting and catching up. Then after about 15 minutes or so, I heard over the waiting area’s loudspeaker system, “McPussy, your table is ready, McPussy.” Of course that was greeted with quite a few titters from those around us. I just looked at Gar to see how he was going to handle this, and he just ignored it and continued talking with his folks. And then 30 seconds later I hear, more forcefully, “Sven McPussy, your table is ready.” More titters. And still Gar sits, just playing it cool and not wanting to let his folks know that he in fact is McPussy. Ah, but then the hostess breaks through the crowd of people and walks up to Gar and says forcefully “Mr. McPussy, your table is ready.” Gar looks up at the hostess and says “oh, thank you,” and then turns to his folks and with the reddest face I’ve ever seen on anyone, says “well, we have to go now.”

It turned out to be a very nice dinner. On the way out of the restaurant, we passed the Arbuckle’s table and said good night, and as we were walking away Gar’s mom said “good-night, Sven.”
