Bottom line … I wasn’t thrilled. I was a little skeptical going in. I definitely had hopes, but I also had a few questions and a few doubts. It seemed that the way it was being billed, at least formally, was way too “neutral.” But I wanted to think it would end up being more than that. And in terms of being able to register some level of protest, it was really the only game in town. It seemed to offer so much potential.
But it didn’t turn out to be anything more than what was formally billed. It was mostly just along the lines of be nice … let’s not shout … can’t we discuss this like reasonable people? I ended up leaving the Seattle rally before it was over because of the rain, and then fast-forwarded through most of the real rally that I had recorded.
It was later that evening that I had what I thought was a brilliant insight – or what I like to call a Dunconian Moment. It was just a few days before the rally that John Stewart had interviewed President Obama. And one of his more pointed and insightful questions – one that got a fair amount of coverage – was along the lines of “given the high-flying oratorical flourishes and rhetoric of your campaign, wasn’t your legislative agenda rather timid in contrast?” I realized that’s exactly how I would characterize the Rally to Restore Sanity. It was so damned timid! Stewart does such a good job on his show of skewering and exposing the far right, the Tea Party, Fox News. (He’ll also skewer the left on occasion as warranted, but most of the skewering is rightfully directed to the far right.). That’s what I wanted to protest against. That’s what got me interested in going. But instead it was mostly just “be nice.” I think being nice is important too, but I’m not going to go too far out of my way, or stand too long in the rain, to rally for it.
So it wasn’t bad. It just could have been so much more.
Okay, blah, blah, blah, can we get back to something a little more Dunconian? Yes, yes we can.
Are “Sexy Wipes” the Next Big Can’t-Miss Product?
I’m pretty sure the answer to this question is a resounding no.
Hon, can you bring me a Sexy Wipe? Oops, better make it two.
Eeeewwww. I don’t even know what it’s alluding to, but none of the options are good.

I did enjoy seeing the former Cat Stevens – Yusuf Islam – at the DC rally. This is a nice version of what I think is my favorite Cat Stevens’ song, and it’s Our Duncan Funk Song of the Day.
