Bands, Singing Groups, Songs, Envy & Ambition

My friends Gar Arbuckle and Roy Noyes, and Vulva and me were talking the other day about maybe forming a band. We got the idea because a week ago our local Chamber of Commerce held another one of their talent shows, and my neighbors, Officer and Mrs. Cornhole, and their daughter Nikki, who often perform at these things as a family singing group – they call themselves The Singing Cornholes – won first prize (again). And they won a hundred bucks (again)! (And no offense to the Cornholes, but I’ve heard better. And it’s just kind of weird to hear them singing Stairway To Heaven while they do their choreographed dance moves…especially the “climbing up the stairs” ones). Which, by the way, they’re always practicing at night – I know because I can see them through their windows. When I first saw them I thought that maybe they were part of a cult or something, but turns out they just really like to dance (or at least climb up the stairs a lot). Anyway, me and Vulva and Gar and Roy were talking about forming our own band, when Gar pipes up saying that he’s calling “dubs” on naming our band.. And it’s going to be, ta-dah, get this: Gus and the Potatoes.

Yeah right. We don’t even know anyone named Gus, except Gus Peters our police chief. And nobody even calls him that. They either call him “Chief” because that’s his title, or “Curly” because that’s a nickname he’s had for years ever since he started going bald. (At least that’s what Mr. Jeepers told me.). And that name always seems to get a chuckle out of people when they hear it – but I guess it is pretty funny because he’s really bald, and you don’t expect a bald dude to be called Curly. Anyway, if you ever hear someone talking about either Chief Peters, or Curly Peters, well, that’s our Police Chief!

I have to admit that I like Gus and the Potatoes a lot better than either Chief and the Potatoes or Curly and the Potatoes. But I’m still not sure. And I know Vulva didn’t like it, ‘cause she shot me one her looks. Anyway, we’ve put the band idea on the back burner for now, at least until the next talent show.
