A Quick Lesson on Paraphrasing

Paraphrasing, like para-sailing- can be tricky, and you want to do it responsibly. Here’s an example. If I was talking about the late Senator Robert Kennedy, I could say one of his most famous quotes was along the lines of

Some men see things as they are, and say why.
But not me.


That’s definitely a paraphrase, but it doesn’t really do justice to the original quote, which was:

Some men see things as they are, and say why.
I dream of things as they never were and say why not.


Do you see the difference? Let’s all work on our paraphrasing today.
