Loin Girding Update

Well, what could have been an all-around unpleasant situation appears to have been resolved amicably. Officer Cornhole apologized to Mr. Jeepers for arresting him for girding his loins, saying he realized he probably over-reacted. For his part, Mr. Jeepers accepted Officer Cornhole’s apology and said that upon further reflection, he probably shouldn’t have been girding his loins while talking to another man’s wife, and if he felt he really couldn’t help himself, he at least shouldn’t have told her that’s what he was doing.

Ours is a small town where word gets around fast, and this incident has got people to talking. And that can be a good thing if it opens people’s minds and serves as an educational tool. Or, it can just be embarrassing. My friend Gar told me that his parents were talking about it over dinner last night. He said his mom, Barb Arbuckle, said she didn’t see what the big deal was, saying she herself girded sometimes. He said his dad seemed really surprised and said that he didn’t even know women could gird. Gar said his mom rolled her eyes and said of course women girded … they just don’t make as big of a deal about it as men do. He said his dad asked if he could watch the next time she girded, and she just winked at him. Feeling pretty uncomfortable, Gar said he just piped up saying “how ‘bout those Mariners?”

And still the world keeps on turning.
