Yes, “Ruly” Is a Real Word

Of course you’re no doubt familiar with the term “unruly” – something which is difficult or impossible to control, discipline or rule, like a crowd or even your hair. But its opposite – ruly – is also a word, meaning orderly or easily restrained. So you could go out tonight, perhaps to a party or a local watering hole, and muse to someone, perhaps a bartender or an attractive-looking person you’d like to impress, "my, the place seems ruly tonight, really ruly." They might just look at you, but you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve just made a keen observation (assuming of course the place really is ruly). I wouldn’t plan on building your whole night around this, though, ‘cause frankly that’d be kind of pathetic.
