It’s Titusville – Not Titsville

The heavy burden of maintaining this blog sometimes takes me to different places. Now for a couple of days I’m staying on the Florida Gulf Coast, along the beach areas outside Tampa/St. Petersburg. It’s a combination work/pleasure trip so I’ve got some time to fill. I like exploring and so I’ve driven up and down the 25 mile or so beach area and enjoyed it (other than the fact that the temperatures are supposed to be in the 70s and they’re actually in the 50s – ah well.) But I was thinking it might be fun to drive across the shaft of this phallically shaped state to go over to the Atlantic side. I wasn’t sure where to go so I took out a map, and there it was: Titsville! BINGO! It’s close to a three hour drive, but hey, what’s three hours when you’re going to Titsville?

So I packed up some stuff for my day’s outing, and went to the front desk at the resort I’m staying at, and said to the woman there: I’m going to Titsville – what’s the best way to get there? She looked at me with kind of a blank expression, so I pulled out my map and pointed to where I was going, and that’s when she said “It’s Titusville.”

Oh.

I decided not to go. I'm sure it's very nice, but it almost certainly wouldn’t match what I had started to picture in my mind.

When I was driving around yesterday I heard this song on the radio that I hadn’t heard for a long time, and I always liked it, so I decided it should be Our Duncan Funk Song of the Day. I was prescient. Bless my heart.
