Omar Vizquel

I like baseball, and I’m a Seattle Mariners fan. And too often that is a hard, hard thing to be. Early in his major league career, Omar Vizquel played for the Mariners. But eventually he moved on to bigger and better things. And he blossomed – he’s been an All-Star and a Gold Glove winner multiple times, and he’s one of the best defensive shortstops to ever play the game. He’s now playing for the Chicago WhiteSox, and he’s 44 years old! Forty-four years old! And the broadcasters, at least the Seattle broadcasters, still refer to him as “Little O,” a nickname that I think he picked up in Seattle. He’s 44 years old, and they still call him Little O! I heard that, and the first thing I thought was I bet he’s glad he wasn’t named Douche Simmons, because then he’d be 44 years old and the broadcasters would still be calling him Little Douche. One more thing to thank your folks for, Omar!

Here’s Marc Cohn with a nice rendition of a great old Cat Stevens song for Our Duncan Funk Song of the Day.
