What the Diddily Douche?

To me, the appearance of a second sun in the sky is unusual. But apparently it’s not all that much so to others.

Vulva and I were driving home from a long weekend spent in Vancouver, British Columbia yesterday (oh we had a great time, thank you for asking), and we were heading south on I-5 in Tacoma, and Vulva commented that it was kind of interesting that there was a small rainbow just off the side of the sun. At the time there was some light high clouds that kind of obscured the sun – I didn’t see so much a rainbow as a brownish smudge just to the right of the sun … but it was kind of interesting. But it got even more interesting when a second, slightly brighter sun came out from behind the clouds about 20 degrees or so to the right of the first one. Two suns? What the diddily douche? We pulled off the freeway and went into a parking lot so we could stop and watch this whatever-it-was. Assuming it had to be a super nova, or the beginning of the end-of-the-world starting just a day later than its forecast arrival, I turned on the radio to hear whatever reports there were. But there were no reports. No one else seemed to be paying it any attention. I’ve checked all the papers this morning and seen nary a comment. We watched it for about 20 minutes or so, and then went to dinner because if the world was ending we wanted to go out on a full stomach.

This photograph came out looking a little darker than it actually was, because it was still about an hour before sunset. Anyway, we had two suns for a brief period yesterday, and I thought somebody might want to know.

As I mentioned, we were up in Vancouver over the weekend and went to the Granville market a couple of times for lunch. The first day we were there this guy was performing, and I really liked his version of this song. This was the only video I could find on YouTube, and it’s not as good as he sounded at the market, but it’s still worthy of being Our Duncan Funk Song of the Day.
