Do We Have Things To Learn From Ducks? Perhaps. Perhaps Not.

Vulva and I just returned from a most pleasant mini-vacation at a timeshare resort we’ve gone to for several years now.  I spent a good amount of time just sitting in a lawn chair on the edge of our patio enjoying the view, reading, and soaking up plenty of sunshine.  Invariably when we go there, there’s a duck couple that occasionally walks by.  I don’t know if it’s the same two ducks year after year, but they sure look the same, so we just call them the names we gave them when we first saw them years ago, George and Clara.

So I was sitting out there one morning, enjoying the feeling of my bare feet on the grass, when George and Clara slowly walk by, not more than eighteen inches or so from my feet.  They pay no attention to me, but instead just constantly nibble at whatever it is they find in the grass, Clara in front and George right behind here.  And then, without missing a step, Clara just drops a turd.  CLARA! That is NOT the way to attract a gentleman, I thought.   But here’s the thing, George seemed completely unfazed.  Did he just not see this most egregious breach of etiquette?  Or did he just decide to let it pass (which clearly is what Clara had done).   I know for me, had it been Vulva who had done that, I absolutely would have been fazed, and I most certainly would have said something.  But not George.  They just continued walking and nibbling, walking and nibbling.

Is there a lesson here?  No, I don’t think there probably is.  They’re just ducks, after all. So, never mind.

Is it a coincidence that this is the post we feature Rachael Yamagata’s Duet for Our Duncan Funk Song of the Day?  Ask George.
