He Wuvs a Good Song

The local talent scene is absolutely exploding. I’ve told you about our new up-and-coming folk duo, White and Wong, who some think may just be the next Simon and Garfunkel. Well, it turns out Phillip Wong, of White and Wong, has a little brother named Wes, who some are saying may be the next Robin Williams. He combines comedy and music, and his entire schtick is singing songs in an Elmer Fudd voice. I don’t have any video of him, but here’s one of Robin Williams doing the same thing.

But Wes gets into it big time. He’s had posters made up and they’re plastered all over town: I’m Wes Wong, and I Wuv a Good Song! And he comes out on stage wearing a plaid hunter’s cap with earflaps (just like Elmer), carrying a “widdle wifle.” And the thing is, he’s really good. I heard him do three songs last night, and he was incredible – and versatile. His first song was an old Beatles standard, Love Me Do.

Wuv, wuv me do
You know I wuv you
I’ll always be twoo
So pweeaassse, wuv me do

He then got rockin’with a great rendition of Led Zepplin’s Whole Lotta Love – which of course he sings as Whole Wotta Wuv. (The crowd went crazy when he just killed the line “Way down inside, woman, you-oo nee-eed…..wuuuuvvvvvvv….gotta whole wotta wuv). And then he closed the show with a beautiful and sensitive rendition of “Send in the Cwowns.” I don’t know, maybe it could get old, but I walked away impwessed!

It’s like Our Duncan Funk Song of the Day will almost assuredly be anti-climatic after that, but we’ll give it a whirl with Ms. Alanis Morissette. Click on the title to see the video.
