First, I heard from an old friend who seemed to know a suspicious amount about Athol. He said there were at least eight other Athols in additional to the one in Idaho. Who would have thought there could have been so many Athols in this great country of ours? And then he also said Athol apparently means “special place.” Special place? Really? You find a “special place” and the best you can do is call it Athol? And was it one person who went all around the country looking for special places, and when he found one he’d say “here’s another Athol”? Or was it just an astonishing coincidence? Different people in different parts of the country, all finding special places, and all debating what to call it, and all deciding on “Athol?” I’m afraid that just strains my credulity – ouch!
And then I heard from Eleanor Galore, Gar’s romantic interest. (Apparently she hasn’t been formally declared a “girlfriend” yet, but I understand it’s considered imminent.) She said her great-aunt Ethel – you know, Pussy – actually came from one of those other Athols. And when she was just starting out, long before she was Pussy, she was often referred to as “Ethel from Athol.” Interesting.
And finally, I heard from one Colonel Bernard J. “Bernie” Aho, who said, try as he might, he just didn’t see the humor in it. I’m not going there.

And so on this first day of not posting everyday, it’s time for Our Duncan Funk Song of the Day. And from nearly forty years ago, we have George Harrison warning us to beware of soft-shoe shufflers dancing down the sidewalk. I, for one, always keep on the lookout. Click on the title to see the video.
